Hi there, my name is Mike and welcome to DepressionHurts.com! I'm 33 years old and live near London in England. Why the "depression hurts" logo? Well let me tell you I have suffered from clinical depression for the last 10 years and for me it really does hurt, emotionally and physically! I have created this website in the hope that it will be a positive and useful resource for anyone who, like me, has suffered from, is suffering from, and may potentially in future suffer from depression. When I say depression I don't mean when you feel a little blue or down one day and then have a cup of tea and you feel better - I'm talking about clinical depression, the type of depression that stops you being able to function as a human being, where even getting through an average day can be an enormous struggle! I would like to add at this point that I am not a doctor, psychiatrist or psychologist and I would recommend any medical advice given or suggested here should be double-checked with a trusted medical professional. Also, any information contained on this site cannot be guaranteed to be 100% accurate- I take great time and effort to ensure that all information on this site is as accurate and unambiguous as possible, but it would still be wise to look for other reference sources (see the links section).
I suffer from clinical depression occasionally - far too occasionally for my liking unfortunately - and I have created this website as a personal research project to help me understand my depression and why it happens, to find potential cures and also to find ways to take pro-active steps to stop depression before it starts. Did you notice I wrote "my" depression in the last sentence? Depression is a very personal thing and is never the same for each individual so taking ownership and personalizing it is a natural thing to do. However, it is very important to realize you are not suffering alone and great comfort can be found by sharing your feelings with fellow sufferers, people you might not even have had any contact with before. Sometimes its easier to talk to strangers. By sharing my findings with others, I hope that people will come to this site and find its contents informative and useful in solving or at least controlling "their" depression problems. Information featured on this site includes:
In the near future i will be adding a Blogspot to the site, just to give my thoughts about depression and depression-related news articles find. Don't worry, i'll make sure its an interesting read - light-hearted but serious if you know what i mean. After all, depression is no laughing matter, but then again taking one-self too seriously is pretty unhealthy as well, don't you think?
